100 NFL Stats: Yes, We're Absolute Mad Lads
A few days ago we launched our 60+ NFL Stats Dashboard. The response was great. But we couldn't stop thinking about what we were missing.
So we kept building. And building. And now we have exactly 100 metrics.
Is that overkill? Maybe. Do we care? Absolutely not.
What's New: 40 Additional Stats
We added three entirely new categories and beefed up our existing ones. Here's the breakdown.
New Category: Situational Stats 🎲
Fourth down and goal-to-go situations are where games are won and lost—and where markets get lazy.
| Stat | Why It's Undervalued |
|---|---|
| 4th Down Att/Conv/% | Aggressiveness AND execution. A team that goes for it 15 times at 60% is fundamentally different from one that goes 5 times at 80%. |
| Goal-to-Go Att/TDs/% | The ultimate red zone efficiency. You're inside the 10—can you punch it in? |
Markets price red zone efficiency as a single number. We break it down to where it actually matters.
New Category: Drive Efficiency 📉
Drives tell stories that play-by-play stats miss.
| Stat | What It Reveals |
|---|---|
| 3-and-Out Rate (Off) | How often does your offense completely stall? High 3-and-out % = short fields for opponents. |
| 3-and-Outs Forced (Def) | The flip side. Elite defenses get off the field fast. |
| Scoring Drive % | What percentage of drives end in points? This is drive-level efficiency in one number. |
| Avg Starting Field Position | Hidden value from special teams and defense. Starting at your own 30 vs 20 compounds over a season. |
| Time of Possession | The classic. Now contextualized alongside drive metrics. |
| Plays Per Drive | Sustained drives vs quick strikes. Scheme indicator. |
New Category: Contextual Splits 🌡️
This is where it gets fun. Markets barely adjust for game context. We track 8 different contextual records:
| Split | Why Markets Miss It |
|---|---|
| As Favorite | Some teams coast when favored. Others step on throats. |
| As Underdog | Chip-on-shoulder teams vs teams that fold when disrespected. |
| Dome/Outdoors | Dome teams going to Lambeau in December? Good luck. |
| Cold Weather (≤32°F) | Florida and California teams in the elements are a different animal. |
| High Wind (≥15mph) | Passing games evaporate. Run-heavy teams thrive. |
| Divisional | Familiarity breeds chaos. Division games have their own variance. |
A team that's 8-2 but 2-3 as an underdog and 1-2 in cold weather? That's information the market isn't pricing.
Beefed Up: Defensive Playmaking
Our original defense category was solid. Now it's comprehensive.
| New Stat | The Signal |
|---|---|
| QB Hits | Pressure without the sack. Harassing quarterbacks matters even when they don't go down. |
| Pressures | Sacks + QB Hits. The true pass rush number. |
| Pressure Rate | Pressures per dropback. Normalized for opponent pass volume. |
| Passes Defended (PBU) | Ball-hawking coverage. Some DBs get picks, others just break things up. |
| Forced Fumbles | Separate from recoveries (which are random). Pure playmaking. |
| Stuffed Runs (Def) | Runs held to zero or negative yards. Run defense in its purest form. |
We also added yds_per_pass_allowed and yds_per_rush_allowed for per-play defensive efficiency.
The Rushing Game: Stuffed Runs
Speaking of stuffed runs—we now track them on offense too.
| Stat | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Stuffed Runs | How often does your run game go nowhere? |
| Stuffed Run % | Percentage of runs that gain 0 or negative yards. |
A team averaging 4.5 YPC with a 25% stuffed run rate is very different from one averaging 4.5 YPC with a 15% stuffed run rate. The first is boom-or-bust; the second is consistent.
Scoring: Second Half Breakdown
We already tracked 2nd Half Differential. Now we break it down:
- Pts 2H: Second half points scored
- Pts Allowed 2H: Second half points allowed
Combined with the differential, you can see whether a team wins second halves by scoring more or allowing less. Coaching adjustments vs defensive stamina.

Total: 100 metrics. Exactly.
What's Next?
We're not done. The dashboard now has enough raw data that we can start computing composite metrics—second-order calculations that combine multiple stats into single predictive signals.
Think: regression indicators, fraud detection, sustainability scores.
Stay tuned.
